We are seeking a passionate, self-driven and creative individual to join our Credit Team as the Credit Manager.

Job Summary

The Credit Manager will be responsible for growth of the Society’s loan portfolio while ensuring quality and health of the loan book is maintained by reviewing non-performing assets book and developing appropriate strategies to ensure timely recovery of amounts due, with minimum loss exposure.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Strategic planning & management
    1. Review and introduce market driven loan products
    2. Developing credit risk management and score card analysis
    3. Providing technical advice to staff, management and board on credit issues
    4. Formulating, establishing, reviewing and implementing the Sacco’s credit policies and procedures
    5. Managing relationships with business partners having direct impact to the credit department.
    6. Signatory to the bank accounts and approval of payments to the assigned limits
  2. Compliance & Risk
    1. Formulating, establishing, reviewing and implementing credit fraud prevention and mitigation
    2. Ensuring all credit transactions are in compliance with laws and regulations
    3. Ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory guidelines in lending.
    4. Monitoring/ controlling loans in the risk and compliance framework
  3. Operations & Reporting
    1. Supervising collection of delinquent non-performing and charged off loans
    2. Preparing periodic credit administration reports for Finnlemm Sacco
    3. Preparing instructions to auctioneers and debt collectors
    4. Presenting recovered securities sale bids to the Procurement committee with recommendations on disposal.
    5. Maintain a register of loans security documents, security recoveries and sale including renewal of insurance premiums
    6. Leading in growth of a high quality and profitable loan portfolio
    7. In liaison with the Sacco Advocates, handles all matters relating to credit defaulters
    8. Preparing all documentation required by the Sacco’s Advocates in all court matters
    9. Dual custodian for safe custody and security documentation.
    10. Reporting to the Regulator on all regulatory reports within required time frames.
    11. In liaison with the Sacco Advocates, handles conveyance related issues in respect to loan securities
  4. HR & People Management
    1. Supervise staff in the department and handle Talent Management, performance appraisals, work schedules, leave management of direct reports
    2. Support the CEO and advise on human resource matters, including drafting of JDs, and hiring of new employees in the Credit department.
    3. Handle welfare and disciplinary issues within the department
    4. Ensure motivation and team work within the department for high productivity

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Academic & Professional qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Banking, Credit Management or any other related qualification.
  2. Professional qualifications in Credit Management (Certified Credit Professional)
  3. Holder of CPA (K) and member of ICPAK in good standing
  4. Minimum of 7 years’ relevant experience in credit administration or loan management gained from working at management level in a financial institution, Sacco or Microfinance.
  5. Knowledge of SASRA regulations will be an added advantage.
  6. Must be proficient in MS Office Suite of Packages. Experience in Navision is an added advantage.

Technical and Interpersonal skills

  1. Strong analytical skills, excellent communication, negotiation skills and interpersonal skills, focused, self-driven and attentive to detail.
  2. Very good command of both written and oral English
  3. Ability to advise senior management and member stakeholders on credit management initiatives.
  4. Strong business acumen and highly dependable.
  5. Good customer service and interpersonal relations skills.
  6. Experience in team leadership and supervision.
  7. Good skills in report writing and data analysis.
  8. Proven skills in credit risk analysis and mitigation
